The artist has given the full amount of his £25k award prize money to the MVT, which operates to preserve the United Kingdom's grassroots live music spots.

He was presented with the prize on mid-October as his new release his work was named the best record of the past year.

The musician has decided to hand the money over to the trust, in appreciation of the crucial part small stages fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the gigs I performed around the region, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," stated Sam Fender. "These spaces are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these spaces have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

In the last year, well-known musicians such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by including a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which benefits independent venues.

Fender also participated, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to support 38 small stages across Britain.

These funds supported spaces that were dealing with imminent closure due to difficulties caused by floods, fires and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Other venues received financial assistance in upgrading infrastructure and gear that helped performers and concertgoers.

"The idea that revenue from shows in big venues helps the independent spots, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just common sense," Fender has stated.

In recent years, Ezra Collective contributed their funds to the community center that nurtured their act, in addition to other local music groups.

Additionally 1994 winners M People gave their award to a charity for MS after a friend was identified with the disease.

"Receiving the award was ample," said singer the singer. "The prize was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory affected somebody else's life."

Recently, the trust shared it had protected a couple of grassroots venues in the South East, by transferring them to local control.
